A website for new brand Boost Inc. - a leading unattended retail business.
Boost Inc., the newly rebranded combination of Aeguana and Boost Bar, provided us with brand guidelines and website concepts created by their branding agency. We transformed them into a technically sound design before handing over to our in-house development team who went on to build an industry-leading website.

An online presence for Boost Inc.
As the Aeguana and Boost Bar food vending businesses combined to create Boost Inc. so too did the need to combine their respective websites. This was an opportunity to streamline large volumes of existing, heavy website content into a lighter-weight, clearer and easily navigated modern website.
Today’s Boost Inc. website is the result of two phases:
- Phase 1 involved the delivery of a basic website to establish Boost Inc. online
- Phase 2 went to a deeper level of strategy and content to build out Boost Inc’s complete offering
We needed to understand their needs, before going on to advise on the selection, prioritisation and presentation of the right content before designing and building it into a class-leading website.

Gather requirements, get moving.
All Rouge projects begin with a tailored Discovery phase. The sessions draw out key information for us to carry out the project, with the aim of removing grey areas and meaning minimal questions along the way.
We conducted two sessions with Boost, discussing project basics, site strategy and map, as well as ensuring we were setting up to target the right content at the right audiences.
As our main task, we transitioned the website concepts into a working design, ready for development. This involved a user experience review in light of the site’s purpose and its agreed user journey’s. We also conducted a review of the website concepts, making design adjustments where needed ensuring its practicality as a fully interactive, working website.

Initial delivery
We create a design system for every website we do. It allows us to set consistent, repeatable styles and patterns across the design, so updates are universal, new design is fast, and the system is scalable over time.
Once the design was fitted our grid, mapped to the design system, met our design accessibility standards, and was optimised for full device responsiveness, it was handed to our development team to be built.
While the content and scale of the Phase 1 website were limited, it still met every design and build quality standard we work to at Rouge. This includes a minimum of AA Accessibility, fully optimised for performance (where technology allows) and secured in accordance with the OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) recommendations.

Consultancy, content strategy, design.
Phase 2 began immediately after go-live. Here, our consultancy and content strategy played a key part in adding depth to the next iteration of the website.
We conducted a competitive analysis, reviewing the websites of 13 similar businesses against 14 varied criteria. The results, summed up in a comprehensive report, highlighted areas of interest, trends, and common practices to follow and to avoid.
This work had a big impact on the strategy for the website when pursuing increased engagement; where Boost’s original plan was to create a page for each of their products, the decision was now made to keep content high-level, instead providing contact details for users to request product-specific information directly.

Mapping new content for new design
Accurate content and component mapping means no more design takes place than is necessary, keeping costs to a minimum but with optimal results.
We assessed the BoostBar and Aeguana websites for the content due to be added to the new Boost Inc site. This cross-referencing exercise involves a coding system for content types and their components, where content is mapped to existing components to expose gaps for any new design work.
We provided Boost a list of the new components required, who created their own wireframes for us to interpret into a working design.
With the consultancy, strategy and design work complete, the designs were again handed over to our developers to work their magic.

Live and looking ahead
We don’t always design the websites we build at Rouge, many of our clients come to us simply for our exacting development standards.
We can turn any design or concept work into engaging real-world digital products. We’ll always put external design work through the tough Rouge quality standards tests, and make any changes to ensure the end product meets our stringent design quality standards before our developers get going.
The second-generation Boost Inc. website is more complex, more complete, with a broader depth of pages, more concise content and a clearer navigation and information architecture structure.
boostinc.com is now fit to match Boost Inc’s growth and to be a stable platform, providing flexibility and value to the business the long term.
